A lot of historical stories are associated with Kuzhikkattillom. The current Thantri, Brahmasree Akkeeraman Kalidasan Bhattathirippad mentioned one important incident among them and is narrated below.

“My grandfather, out of sheer desire to see Devi, performed penance for 41 days, and in the end Devi appeared before him wearing an expression of calmness. But he requested to see Devi in her full furi as a result Devi appeared before him as requested. He wrote a “Shloka’ with Devi as inspiration.”

There are also many other fables stories associated with Kuzhikkattillam, on such is associated with Kayamkulam Kochunni.

“Once my grandfather and his assistants on their way back from Kayamkulam, had a chance encounter with Kayamkulam Kochunni near at Thiruvalla Sreevallabha Mahadeva temple. He blocked them and demanded gold and money.  Being an expert in Thantric rituals, my grandfather takes a knife and  thrust it on a banyan tree. Legend tells us that dacoits circled around the tree till next day morning. Later they went to the Illam and apologized for their misdeeds.”
